IE2M EO Underwater Pluggable Connector

IE2M Male EO underwater pluggable connector — 2 contact, rated 20,000 psi (45,000 ft). Pressure-balanced design for de-energised underwater mating. Suitable for ROV, AUV, and subsea instrumentation.

EO Underwater Pluggable Connector — IE2M Male

The IE2M male EO underwater pluggable connector is engineered for applications requiring reliable wet-mate capability at extreme depths. Utilising a pressure-balanced design, the connector can be mated and de-mated underwater with the circuit de-energised, making it ideal for ROV interventions, subsea tooling, and deep-water observatory infrastructure where topside disconnection is not practical.

Rated to 20,000 psi (45,000 ft depth), the connector withstands the most demanding offshore and deepwater environments while maintaining seal integrity across thousands of mating cycles. The patented pressure-balanced mechanism equalises internal and external pressure, eliminating the significant insertion force that would otherwise be required at depth.

Why Pressure-Balanced EO Connectors Outperform Standard Wet-Mates

Effortless Deep-Water Engagement

At 20,000 psi, conventional connectors require enormous insertion force due to differential pressure. The pressure-balanced design uses an internal oil-filled compensator to equalise pressure across the mating faces, allowing ROV manipulators to engage the connector with the same force at 45,000 ft as at the surface.

No Specialised Tooling Required

The low-insertion-force design eliminates the need for hydraulic stab tools or torque-controlled manipulator attachments. Standard ROV manipulator jaws can engage and release the connector reliably, reducing operational complexity and intervention cost.

Extended Service Life at Depth

Gold-plated beryllium copper contacts and moulded elastomer sealing maintain electrical integrity over thousands of mating cycles in a seawater environment — far exceeding the life expectancy of non-pressure-balanced alternatives.

Broad System Compatibility

Available in male and female variants with matching dummy plugs and bulkhead receptacles, the connector integrates directly into standard subsea electrical architecture without custom adaptor plates.

Dual Depth Ratings Available

The EO pluggable family spans 10,000 psi (bulkhead mount, panel feedthrough) through 20,000 psi (inline, right-angle, locking sleeve), allowing system designers to match depth rating to application depth and cost requirements.

Installation and Maintenance Guidelines

Pre-Dive Inspection

Inspect the O-ring seals and mating faces for damage or contamination before every dive. Apply fresh silicone grease to all O-ring surfaces. Verify that the pressure compensation mechanism moves freely by pressing gently on the compensator plunger — it should spring back smoothly.

ROV Mating Procedure

Always confirm the circuit is de-energised before instructing the ROV to mate the connector. Align the keying pin with the keyway on the receptacle before applying axial force. Do not force the connector at an angle — misalignment will damage contacts. Confirm a positive tactile or visual engagement indication before re-energising the circuit.

Recovery and Storage

Install dummy plugs immediately on recovery to prevent ingress of sediment or biofouling material. Flush with clean fresh water, inspect contacts, re-grease, and store in a clean, dry environment. Replace O-rings at the manufacturer-recommended service interval or any time damage is observed.
