ILM1M Mini-1 Subsea Circular Connector — Single Contact In-Line Male, 600V, 800 Bar

ILM1M: single-contact Mini-1 in-line male subsea circular connector. 600V, 10A, 800 Bar open face / 1,400 Bar mated. Gold-plated contact, chloroprene body. For ROV, AUV, and compact instrument applications.

ILM1M Mini-1 Subsea Circular Connector — Overview

The ILM1M is a single-contact Mini-1 In-Line Male subsea circular connector — the smallest connector in the circular series platform. Designed for space-constrained ROV, AUV, and instrument applications where a full multi-pin connector is unnecessary, the ILM1M provides a reliable, depth-rated single power or signal circuit in a compact chloroprene rubber body.

Rated to 800 Bar open-face pressure and qualified to 1,400 Bar when mated, the Mini-1 shares the same gold-plated contact technology and chloroprene rubber overmold as the larger circular series connectors, making it fully compatible with the circular series ecosystem for mixed deployments.

Key Design Features

  • Single-contact Mini-1 In-Line Male — smallest connector in the circular series, ideal for space-constrained and weight-critical deployments
  • 10A / 600V rated — full-power single-circuit capacity in a compact form factor
  • 800 Bar open-face pressure rating — unmated face can withstand 800 Bar / 11,600 psi, suitable for deployment with dummy cap removed
  • 1,400 Bar design depth (mated) — qualified to full ocean depth hydrostatic pressure when connected
  • 500+ wet mating cycles — repeated in-situ connection and disconnection without performance degradation
  • Gold-plated copper alloy contact — contact resistance < 10 mΩ, corrosion-immune in full ocean salinity
  • Chloroprene rubber overmold — chemically resistant, thermally stable from -40°C to +60°C
  • Compatible with circular series ecosystem — pairs with any Mini-1 female connector (ILM1F) within the platform

Typical Applications

  • Single-circuit ROV thruster power feeds and sensor signal lines in space-constrained chassis locations
  • AUV single-circuit payload power connections where multi-pin connectors are over-specified
  • Underwater camera and LED lighting single-power-circuit connections
  • Oceanographic mooring single-sensor data and power feeds
  • Single-circuit cable repair joints for underwater power or signal restoration
  • Low-channel-count instrument interfaces on observatory nodes where board space is limited

Why Choose the ILM1M Over Generic Underwater Connectors

1. Chloroprene Rubber Body — Deep-Sea Grade Sealing

The ILM1M uses a chloroprene rubber overmold that outperforms standard silicone or polyurethane in subsea environments. Chloroprene maintains elasticity from -40°C to +60°C, resists swelling in seawater and hydraulic oils, and retains its seal under thousands of pressure cycles.

2. Gold-Plated Contacts — Zero Corrosion Tolerance

Every contact pin is gold-plated to keep contact resistance below 10 mΩ throughout the connector's service life. Gold plating provides a thermodynamically stable interface that preserves both signal quality and power transmission across all operating conditions.

3. 1,400 Bar Design Depth — Industry-Leading Pressure Margin

The circular series design envelope is 1,400 Bar (20,300 psi) when mated — providing a massive pressure margin that ensures seals never operate near their failure point, even across variable-depth profiles and thermal expansion cycles.

4. Over 500 Wet Mating Cycles

Qualified for more than 500 mate/demate cycles in seawater without connector replacement — critical for ROV tooling, instrument servicing, and observatory maintenance programs.

5. Available from Single-Unit Quantities

No minimum order quantity. Standard lead time of 1–2 weeks from stock, suitable for prototype testing, research vessel outfitting, and full production deployments.

Installation, Mating, and Maintenance Guidelines

Pre-Mating Inspection

  • Inspect both connector faces under adequate lighting before every mating cycle — remove any debris, biofouling, or salt crystal deposits from contact faces and locking surfaces.
  • Check the chloroprene overmold for cuts, compression set, or delamination. Replace immediately if any damage is found.
  • Verify that all contacts are fully seated and free of bent pins or corrosion spots before mating.

Mating Procedure

  • Align the keying pin precisely before applying axial load — misaligned mating is the primary cause of bent contacts in circular connector systems.
  • Apply firm, steady axial pressure until the locking sleeve engages fully. Never force a partially engaged connector.
  • For underwater mating: mate slowly to avoid hydraulic pressure spikes across the contact face.

Post-Recovery Maintenance

  • Flush connector faces with fresh water immediately after recovery from saltwater — chloride deposits accelerate contact oxidation if left to dry.
  • Apply a light coat of dielectric grease to contact faces and O-ring surfaces before storage if the connector will be unmated for extended periods.
  • Inspect contact surfaces and overmold integrity after every 50 mate/demate cycles or every 12 months, whichever occurs first.
