Basket cables are used in gravity-fed collector basket systems — an alternative to drum reeling and festoon that allows the cable to pile freely into a basket as the crane moves, and pays out under gravity as it travels away. The SPREADERFLEX type 3GSLTOE basket cable is engineered for this piling and unpiling motion, which generates random looping, twisting, and abrasion stresses quite different from drum or festoon duty.
The rubber sheath and flexible construction ensure the cable can be repeatedly looped, piled, and straightened without conductor fatigue, while the outer compound resists the UV, ozone, and mechanical abrasion inherent in outdoor port and shipyard basket installations.
