Flat medium voltage reeling cable (PROTOLON FL type). 3.6/6–12/20 kV, EPR super-clean insulation, rubber sheath, 120 m/min. Ship-to-shore crane, port crane and RTG flat drum MV applications.
The flat MV reeling cable (type designation (N)TSFLCGEWOEU, PROTOLON FL family) is designed for crane drum reel systems where the flat cable geometry reduces drum width and enables side-by-side coiling on specially profiled drums — common on ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and large gantry cranes where the flat cable fits the drum groove design more efficiently than a round cable.
The MV flat reeling cable uses the same EPR super-clean (EI6) insulation, semiconductive field-control layers, anti-torsion construction, and rubber outer sheath as the round PROTOLON design — adapted to a flat cross-sectional profile. Available from 3.6/6 kV through to 12/20 kV, with fibre-optic integration (FL LWL variant) available.

Many large crane drum systems use profiled grooves sized for flat cable — using a round cable in a flat groove results in uneven contact pressure, accelerated sheath wear, and reduced service life.
Flat cables coil in a single plane — for a given cable length, the resulting drum is narrower than the equivalent helical drum for a round cable, reducing crane structure weight.
Flat reel systems guide the cable through a single bending plane — the flat cable cannot twist in this geometry, eliminating torsional stress as a failure mode entirely.
